round chicks

Here is a little chick card that I made using our circle punch and the five petal flower punch. The beak is the 1/4" square punch or you could cut a square if you don't have that. The legs are drawn with marker. I copied this chick idea from demo Lynn Pratt on our demo site. Her chicks were doing the conga and had bunny ears, but I was trying mine and just did a simple card. The clouds are made using bashful blue and the scallop circle and oval punched pieces. I just cut slits in the grass and added little marker blades here and there in the grass. Just add some shading , some eyes and legs to get the rest of the look. Not too hard of a card. It's fun and it's one that brings a smile to my face. I like the chicks I've been making. They are cute and it's been gloomy and they make me smile. I hope they do you too. You'll have to get out some of your punches and try making different chicks, bunnies or even other animals. Some days it's just fun playing around seeing what you come up with I think. So I hope you enjoy my share today. Have a great day.

chick family

I saw the idea for the big chick on our demo site. It was made by Laurie Froehlich. It's a card that opens up. I thought it was really cute. Then I started playing with other shapes and punches and came up with some more just like the big one. I then started slanting eyes and such and then when stacked on top, my daughter said it looks like a family. I looked at it and it does. Reminds me of a family portrait. One kid trying to look all cute, one not wanting his picture taken, the other trying to aggravate the other one, etc. I thought it was funny and had to share it. Such a fun thing with spring coming up. It looks like I forgot to add the little boy too. He looks like the girl on the left, except his little bow is where a bow-tie would go instead of in the hair. It was fun creating them. Circles are cute too, I'll have to share a different card soon with circle chicks. In the meantime I hope you have fun maybe making some chicks. I think these would be fun on cards and especially in scrapbooks as little accents. So I hope you enjoy my share today and it brings a smile to your face. Have a great day.

club project - matchbox and scallop flower

This was another of our club projects this past month. It is made with the matchbox die using Saffron paper. If you look really close you can see that I rolled the base of the box with the friends wheel using Saffron, so it gives it a tone on tone look. I wrapped the box in chocolate chip grosgrain ribbon and punched some leaves with the 2 step bird punch out of celery. The flower on top is made with 5 scallop circles. I balled each one up, inked all the edges and put a small flower (trio flower) and a brad in the center. You then smoosh all toward the middle (brad) and then loosen up the layers. It's a fairly quick and easy flower to make but it's fun and gives a nice effect. I'm liking making the flowers and trying out different punches and such to make them. It's spring and I'm ready to see some flowers. How about you? I actually saw daffodils blooming today. I like seeing them as it means winter has pretty much gone away (with a few exceptions, but for the most part). I mean here it can snow one day and have record heat the next. You just never know. It makes life interesting for sure, which is how I like it for the most part.
So I hope you have a great day today. Blessings.

black and white purse with flap

I was playing around with the purses and I decided I wanted one with a flap as I like my purses to have a covering. So I was playing around and came up with this one. The side picture doesn't look as good as it does in person. I guess after I opened it I forgot to smooth it back down. The flap lifts up and is attached to the back and lays over fairly nicely. I thought it turned out pretty good (just don't look closely) as I'm still a beginner. I learn a lot as I go and the black and white is forgiving as it hides a lot. I think if I did this again though I would add various pockets as I forgot those this time. Live and learn. :) The longest time taken on this was just sewing it (especially for a beginner). Cutting the fat quarters (term for fabric if you didn't know) is simple - just keep folded in half, cut in 5" sections, fold over 2x and run through the Big Shot with the scallop square die (I used an extra shim). Can do 2 sections at a time. Got all the 72 squares cut out within minutes that way. Much better then cutting by hand and it gives you the nice curved edge to boot a bonus.
So I hope you enjoy my ideas and if you've never sewn you have to try it. I created one project over 15 years ago with help, so after that long I didn't remember anything and am new to sewing. I even had to get the book out to see how to thread the machine and set everything up. The first one was definitely frustrating to me, but I persevered and it was still fun in the long run that's why I made 2 more after the first one.
So I hope you enjoy my idea about adding a flap. Have a great day today. Blessings.

Sorry it took me a couple of days to post. My daughter turned 11 (I can't believe how old she is getting) and then our hot water heater went out and we had to deal with that. So many fun things going on. lol.
It all works out, but it does take time to deal with it all which most of you know.

This is a faux pinwheel card that we did in club. I learned how to do this from demo Barb Mulkin who shared how to do this. I made this using some of the paper from the SAB free paper pad. I made it using pumpkin pie, taken with teal and whisper white cardstock. The center is a build-a-brad and the saying is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and punched with the word window and Modern label punches. I also used pumpkin grosgrain ribbon.
This is a very easy technique. These little squares can be punched using the square punch or just cut out with your cutter. Fairly quick and easy and after this somewhat longer winter I was ready for some bright fun colors. So I hope you enjoy the share and have a great day today.
Blessings.

My Daughter's purse

Here is the little purse I made for my daughter. We picked out the colors together. We decided we liked the rag look for her so I put that side out. We also decided to make it reversible so we didn't put a button on it to. That way she can decide if she wants the rag look or the the clean look. I added another picture of the bag showing the clean look, but something was up with the program as it kept turning the picture and we (including my techy husband) couldn't get it to flip right, so you get the sideways view. The picture looks just like this first one on the drive, but when the program pulls it in it flips. Don't ask me why - I don't understand it.
So I thought it turned out to be a cute fun purse. It's made with the scallop square die from the Big Shot. As I make more, they get easier and easier (just don't look closely still as it's only my third project using the sewing machine). My daughter likes it though and that's all that counts. :) So I hope you enjoy my purse share. Hope you have a great day.

big Shot scallop flower

Here is another fun flower made with the Big Shot. This one is made with the scallop circles and fleece. It bunches up and is really soft and fun. My daughter loved it as it was her favorite color. I might see about adding one of these to one of the new bags I'm making. A red one might look really cool on it. It would also be cute on a hair band too. I bet it would also be cute decorating a gift bag too. You could add some scalloped cardstock flowers to a card to match. I bet that would be very festive and fun. The center is a flower brad holding it all together. I just snipped the scallops to give it some dimension.

This next picture I had to share. Since I've been trying to learn how to sew, my son has decided to get creative with what I make. So he decided instead of a sack, he wanted a fish with the material he picked out. So he drew out what he wanted his fish to look like. We enlarged it somewhat and cut it out of the 3 materials we picked out. This is what it turned out looking like. The only thing SU on it are the button eyes. They come from the Button Latte set. The rest is all fabric from a fabric store. He came up with the design for it and I put it together the best I knew how. A little interesting, but he loves it. Of course now he wants a shark to go with it. He drew up a design but it looks kind of like a mean fish, but don't tell him that. Next thing I know he's over in my stash flipping through buttons for it. I told him one thing at a time. I had my daughter's bag to finish which hopefully I'll get a picture of tomorrow. So now you know why I haven't had as much time to make cards and such. Sometimes creating with your kids is just as fun. So I hope you like my share today and have a great day tomorrow.
Blessings.

Upward thank you

We just finished another year of Upward and these were the cards I made to say thanks to our coaches. My kids had great coaches that put up with them really well. They are high energy, so anyone willing to work with them like that really deserves some sort of thank you. I chose these colors because they were the uniform colors this year (or close to it). So I picked Pumpkin pie and Brilliant Blue. I stamped the basket in black on the white. I then stamped the Swish in Brilliant Blue and cut it out close to the lettering. The basketball is stamped in Pumpkin and punched out with the circle punch and both it and the words are raised on dimensionals. It's hard to tell in the picture but the Pumpkin Pie background is stamped with a small star using Pumpkin ink. I also stamped the inside with it too and then stamped Thanks So Much from Sincere Salutations in black. The stamps set I used were Just Basketball, Sporting (for the star) and then Sincere Salutations. I hope you enjoy my share today. Blessings.

fabric purse - big shot scallop square

Guess what I spent a portion of my afternoon doing? It wasn't a hard project if you know how to sew on a sewing machine. Unfortunately for me I hadn't touched one for 15 years and had help then. So I basically had a huge learning curve trying to figure it all out. The actual set up was easy. I just used my Big Shot and the scallop square die and cut out all the squares. You can cut 8 fabric squares with one pass through. Didn't take long and that part was done. Then I cut fabric for my straps and closure and also the batting for the inside. The inside looks like the outside except it includes the rough edges that were sewn together. Now this picture looks odd because of the flash. The yellow on the bottom is a shadow and not there and the button is actually silver and black, but the glare made it yellowish. The top picture is the front. The last the back and then I took a small side pick showing that I added a little pocket on both sides. For my first time, I love it, but I definitely need to practice a lot. :)
I'm thinking about getting some more fabric and making another where I put the scallops out and make it more like a rag purse.
So I hope you enjoy my share today. Have a great day.
Blessings.

a Moment in Time

I'm sorry I've been such a slacker posting. This has been a crazy week for us with quite a few stressful things going on, so I haven't had much creating time this week.
So I was looking at my last few posts and I realized that I hadn't posted pictures of the month before last's scrapbooking your faith pages. I knew I was a slacker this week, but didn't realize it was that bad. :) So this is the pages we made in January. I thought since January is typical of making resolutions and setting goals and such, I thought time a neat thing to talk about for the month. It went really well with the Sense of Time stamp set that I have with the clock and the cool sayings. I also used my two alphabet stamps and we stamped "a moment in Time" with them alternating with old olive and Chocolate Chip ink. The mats are in olive and the side piece and other parts are in Vanilla and inked with Chocolate, carmel and olive. It gives it an aged yet also camoflagey look. I also made an alternative jounal mat to put on one of the olive ones, but I guess I forgot to take a picture of that. The class members want to use 4x6 pictures so that limits the layout some, but overall I thought they turned out pretty cool. In real life you can see more of the shading too, which gives it more character. If you didn't want to use the time theme it would also make some cool manly type pages by changing the sayings.
But for this study we talked about time and Moments in time. We discussed some various bible characters and caught glimpses of their life in certain moments in time. We talked a lot about Zechariah and Elizabeth and waiting on God's timing and being faithful to God through it all. We talked about Moses and God's timing in using him. We talked about Jesus, Joseph and David and having to wait until they were 30 to provide their respective roles and ministries. How we can learn and grow while while waiting for God's timing. We talked about how we could use the pages to talk about a specific moment in time in our life - where we are at, what we were doing, how God used us, etc. We could talk about multiple moments that were special in our lives. We could talk about people God placed in our lives at particular moments and we could also talk about what God was doing in our life at that moment, etc. There are lots of possibilities and I love to have options for those that participate.
So I hope you enjoy the pages and even if you don't have the same sets, you can improvise. Think about ways you can make pages to talk about where you are at this moment, how your relationship to God is at the moment or even various events in your life that has brought you where you are today. If you are more of a cardmaker and not a scrapbooker, how about journaling about your thoughts? Just because you don't scrap, doesn't mean you can't leave your family a legacy of who you are, what you believe and where God has helped you come from and how your life is what it is today because of your relationship with God.
It's great to look back on things and remember. I so wish I could ask my grandmother more questions, which is what prompted me to do more pages about myself and who I am. This way, my children and family can know more about me and who I am. I normally focus my scrapping on events or special occasions. This way it helps them learn more about who I am now in my life.
A cool concept if you think about it. So how about taking time to do that? I love hearing other's stories too. If you get time to share, I'd love to hear about a moment in time in your life.
Hope you have a great day and the page inspires you.
Blessings.
